Weimaraners are special, but it is a big mistake to buy a cute puppy on an impulse. When a pup is small, it is irresistible and you tend not to associate this fluffy little lump with upcoming problems. Nevertheless, the Weimaraner puppy is going to grow into a large and beautiful dog. For the most part, once you have brought the puppy home, it depends on you what it will grow into.

The Weimaraner is a large and active dog that requires attention and time. Some people understand that they have made a mistake too late. Sad enough, there are as many reasons to abandon a Weim as there are Weimaraners in shelters all over the world.

If you feel that you are ready to take up the responsibility and re-home a rescue Weimaraner, there are certain things you should know. Rescue dogs are sure to be less beautiful and temperamentally sound than they are described in the AKC standard. They may have some health and behavioral problems, but that does not mean their troubles cannot be eliminated if proper medical care is applied. At last, rescue Weimaraners are confused and hurt. They have to learn to believe in people again.

However, if the Weimaraner fits well into your lifestyle and you like the idea of training and learning, being consistent and patient, then rescue a Weim is probably for you. Provided you have sufficient time to walk, exercise, train, feed and interact with the dog, you might be ready for the challenge. Weimaraners are very responsive and affectionate dogs that will pay you off with love and devotion.
