Weimaraners are beautiful dogs and it is our common goal to strive for healthy purebred Weims. If you own a Weimaraner and doubt whether to breed or not, there are more arguments against breeding from the very start. Dog overpopulation, stray dogs, a great number of rescue dogs waiting for their adoptive homes are the serious reasons which ought to stop you. Producing only high quality puppies that will be wonderful representatives of the breed is a must.
Never breed because you want to sell your pups and make a profit. This is a wrong reason to breed living creatures. Do not breed pet quality Weimaraners. Do not breed in order to educate your children and show them the miracle of birth. Do not breed to get puppies just like your dog.
A responsible breeder considers breeding a part of his life rather than his business. If you participate in agility, obedience and conformation shows and are active in working towards the goal of winning with your dogs, it is indicative of the seriousness of your approach. If you are aware that you will spend a considerable amount of time and money selecting the sire and the dam, caring for the dam during the pregnancy period and long afterwards, and caring for the litter etc., then breeding may be for you.
However, even if there is nothing else you would like to do with such an enthusiasm but breeding, still there are many questions to ask yourself. Weimaraners are not a breed for everyone. You should know potential owners of your purebred Weimaraners long before they are bred.
